Keep Calm In The Eye Of The Storm
When Storm Doris lashed the shores of the UK and northern Europe in late February, our team’s priority was to get customers to their destinations, safely.
It was clear that – despite a quiet, uninterrupted day of travel – the evening would see some flights from Amsterdam’s Schipol airport affected.
Acting quickly and proactively, we advised our travellers to continue to the airport as normal while we explored alternative travel options.
By the time they arrived and the storm had closed in, we knew flights would be cancelled and prioritised three investigative questions:
- Are there later flights?
- Are there morning flights?
- What is the best way to get everyone back to the UK safely?
To minimise disruption and inconvenience – and anticipating overwhelming customer demand for alternative routes, we had to be decisive.
What happened next?
We booked many of our customers onto alternative flights, urging some straight to departures upon arrival at the airport.
Others were booked onto later flights – before a further challenge presented itself.
A plane’s landing gear failed on the runway, threatening any other flights scheduled that night but not dampening our resolve to help our clients.
Alternative travel options were limited, with rail services flooded, ferries too far away and flights from Rotterdam unavailable.
The only option was to secure comfortable accommodation for eight travellers, ensuring a minimal delay and safe passage on the first flight in the morning.
Thanks to cool-headed experience, quick thinking and hard work, everyone was back home by lunchtime on Friday.
Customer focused corporate travel
Our team understood how stressful the uncertainty of the weather situation was going to be and worked together to ensure personal care of every passenger.
They eased uncertainties by checking them in so there was no risk of being bumped off a busy flight.
Such considerate and efficient service was rewarded with a string of ‘thank you’ texts and emails the following evening.
And with repeat bookings by valued clients, secure in the knowledge they can rely on us, even in the eye of the storm.
